Turin, Italyyyyyyyy
EXCITED!!!
in mid-May
I lucked out on a great rate for booking so early + the connections are not too bad
for flying into Turin instead of Milan
but it's more convenient for Gianluca so I will ignore that I have 2 connections (Mobile-Charlotte-Frankfurt-Turin) before arrival in Turin.
It's gonna' be all good. :)
Get this, I had enough Skymiles for a free flight
BUT
in those peak months of travelers' jetting out on holiday from the States
then Delta wants a bazillion miles to use, sooooo I was short about 40,000 Skymiles.
For example, this month, could've had the free flight with enough miles & then as the summer approaches in May BOOM, they want 100,000 Skymiles
Whatttttt?!
So, about the same to just buy a ticket early with a good $rate
instead of buying those miles to add to my 65,000.
Anyhoo, hope that all makes sense...; )
So, I'm religiously practicing my Italian
yep, flashcards, CDs while driving for work travel (since I'm on the road a lot), and in convo with Luca...
(although he almost always seems to be lost when I say something to him in Italian, then I threaten to only speak English because I think with my Southern accent (which I don't think I speak like someone from Alabama) he gives me a look sometimes like I'm speaking something OTHER THAN Italian, not sure what...hmmmm...,
then he feels bad & makes a bazillion funny faces to make me laugh)
(yes, I know, why didn't I write this post in Italian....well...I can a little, BUT baby steps, I tell ya, baby steps :))
Anyhoo, looking forward to seeing Gianluca (most importantly)
but ok, I confess, NEXT the pizza because I se.rious.lyyyyy miss the pizza
(please Italian friends that read my blog, I'm not stereotying Italy,
but when you taste American "pizza"
and then have the REAL thing...
I must confess that I crave the pizza)
I'm looking forward to Gianluca taking me to his friend's pizzeria because he SWEARS it the best (aside from his pizza he cooks at home),
so I must check this out myself & taste test BOTH pizzas', right? :))
gelato (preferably pistacchio) but hey, i love ANYY flavor in that sinful way
(if I don't think about the calories in 1 serving because my trainer would not be happy)
wow, I feel like i'm putting food before people (in this case)
BUT
apologies in advance, and YES,
I look forward to meeting "the FAMILY" *gasp*
I've watched Godfather I, II & III & ready for this Sicilian "induction"
so, Gianluca has joked there will be "Godfather" music playing in the background
as his father says "Welcome to the Family"
speaking of mamma & pappa...
There is a slight chance that Luca might have to work at the hospital some days I'm there
and he suggested "you can hang out with my parents" until I arrive home.
I'm thinking "Cool!"
then I think I gasped a bazillion times and said,
"hmmmm...there might be some silent periods because of the language but absolutely why not"
(even more why my Italian must be perfected because they might look at me as "who is this girl?!"
because our Luca talks about her but she says nothing)
Meeting new friends
Sightseeing & just enjoying the culture....which I love so much.
This will be my second trip to Turin so looking forward to seeing new things & new experiences in that part of the country.
Counting down the days....
because I'm ready for a brief holiday!
